Ten brilliant but needy students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, have been awarded the S.T. Nankani and Hagan Scholarship, with each recipient receiving GH₵1,500.00. The total disbursement of GH₵15,000.00 aims to cover the academic fees of these students, easing their financial burdens.
The scholarship presentation ceremony took place on Friday, 23rd August 2024, at the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) Boardroom, where the beneficiaries, including Jessica Frimpong Manso and Theophilus Cobbina, expressed gratitude for the support. The Director of DoSA, Professor Wilson A. Agyare, lauded the scheme for its ongoing contributions to the university, noting its significant impact on student life over the years.
Since its inception in 2003, the scholarship has supported over 130 students, promoting gender and regional diversity at KNUST. The scheme, established in memory of S.T. Nankani, is open to second-year students in the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health Sciences, Science, and Engineering.
During the event, Senior Assistant Registrar at DoSA, Mrs. Theodora Oduro, assured that the funds would be allocated directly to the students’ academic accounts. She urged the beneficiaries to excel academically, making the most of the opportunity provided.
Representatives from the S.T. Nankani and Hagan Bursary, including Professor Fred Akuffo, who serves on the Board of Trustees, emphasized the scholarship’s commitment to supporting education at KNUST.
