In a landmark decision, the University Council, during its 280th regular meeting convened on Friday, April 12, 2024, has named Dr. Charles Nsiah as the Finance Officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, for a term of five (5) years, effective May 1, 2024. Dr. Nsiah, currently serving as the Deputy Finance Officer for the College of Health Sciences, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
With over 16 years of professional experience in accounting and financial management, Dr. Nsiah is widely recognized for his interdisciplinary knowledge and commitment to excellence. Having completed his professional accounting qualification (ACCA) in 2007, Dr. Nsiah has since been a fellow and member of esteemed organizations such as the ACCA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), respectively.
His academic achievements include a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Business and Management (Accounting Option) from KNUST, an MBA in Financial Management from the University of Exeter, UK, and First-Class Honours in Accounting and Finance from London South Bank University. Dr. Nsiah’s contributions to public-sector accounting and financial management are commendable.
He has played a pivotal role in implementing financial controls aligned with the Public Financial Management Act and led the adoption of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) at KNUST in 2019. His leadership extends to various positions within the university, including Head of Payables, Acting College Finance Officer, and Institute Finance Officer.
Moreover, Dr. Nsiah’s dedication to academic development is evident through his role in establishing the Master of Science (MSc.) Program in Industrial Finance and Investment at KNUST’s Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) in 2012. He has also been actively involved in lecturing at the postgraduate level and supervising numerous MSc and MBA theses.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Nsiah is deeply engaged in community service, serving as the Audit Committee Chairman for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly and Effiduase Government Hospital. He also contributes to the Church of Christ Mission Hospital Board and has previously served on the governing board of the Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education.
Dr. Nsiah’s appointment as Finance Officer underscores KNUST’s commitment to excellence in financial management and administration, marking a significant milestone in the university’s leadership and governance.
