The Student Representative Council (SRC) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced significant updates to its welfare package aimed at supporting students facing financial challenges. In a recent statement, the SRC revealed that it has allocated Gh¢150,000 from its supplementary operational dues to assist exceptionally needy students.
These students, who still carry legacy debts despite the KBN fund, will receive financial aid to help them meet their academic expenses. Disbursements of these funds are scheduled to take place in the coming days.
Following extensive engagements with fund managers and administrators, the SRC confirmed that disbursements would be made before the end of the semester exams, benefiting over 3,000 students. Additionally, student support services have assured that various agencies providing financial assistance are working diligently to disburse funds before the exam period.
Looking ahead, the SRC emphasized its commitment to the long-term sustainability of the KBN fund. To this end, representatives from across the board will be engaged to gather input for executive approval. The aim is to expand the KBN fund’s coverage to 70% of fees for the upcoming academic year.
While urging students with financial means to fulfill their academic fees promptly, the SRC reiterated its dedication to providing comprehensive support to less-endowed students. By enhancing its welfare package, the SRC aims to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to pursue their education without financial constraints.
Great news!
