Engineer Advocates for Sustainable Transportation Innovations at TRECK Innovation Week

Chairman of the Sectoral Advisory Board of the Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,Dr. John Bernard Koranteng-Yorke, is championing the adoption of transport innovations that prioritize environmental sustainability. During the 2023 TRECK innovation week in Kumasi, Dr. Koranteng-Yorke emphasized the importance of embracing environmentally friendly transportation methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize environmental impact.

He highlighted the significance of promoting electric vehicles, expanding public transit networks, and supporting active transportation modes such as walking and cycling. “Innovations leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as intelligent transport systems, data analytics, and digital platforms, are crucial for improving the efficiency, safety, and reliability of transportation networks,” Dr. Koranteng-Yorke stated.

He also called for innovative policy-making and governance mechanisms to support the implementation of equitable, resilient, and sustainable transportation strategies. The TRECK innovation week, themed “Promoting transport equity, resilience, and sustainability,” aims to showcase groundbreaking research, cutting-edge technologies, and transformative ideas shaping the future of transport engineering.

The three-day event features seminars, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. The Deputy Director of TRECK, Prof. Yaw Tuffuor, expressed the organization’s commitment to driving innovation in transportation.

He emphasized the event’s significance in revolutionizing the movement of people and goods in the region. The provost of the KNUST College of Engineering, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, encouraged participants to actively engage with industry practitioners and researchers to foster collaborations that can drive positive change in the transport sector.
