KNUST SRC President Unveils Four Bold Policy Directions; Pledges Support for Final Year Students’ Research and More

During her State of the SRC address at the KNUST IDL Conference Center, H.E. Yvonne Osei Adobea, the KNUST SRC president, announced a series of policy directions aimed at enhancing student welfare and academic support. One of the key initiatives is the establishment of a Final Year Project Fund to aid final year students in their research and project work, with the goal of fostering a greater interest in research among students in line with global trends.

Additionally, the SRC plans to expand the KBN bursary program to alleviate the financial burden for approximately 1650 students, ensuring continued access to education without financial strain. Adobea highlighted the recommendations of a five-member ad hoc committee, chaired by the SRC advisor, to maintain the total number of beneficiaries while increasing the funds available to support them.

Recognizing the diverse challenges faced by students, including financial, emotional, and relational stressors, Adobea emphasized the need for a robust support system. To address this, the administration is developing an e-counselling app to provide students with convenient access to professional counseling services.

Furthermore, the SRC president outlined reforms to the food and clothing bank, aiming to improve accessibility and support for applicants. Previously, only 37% of total applicants were served, prompting efforts to ensure a greater proportion of students benefit from these essential services.

These initiatives represent the commitment of the Yvonne-Nkay-led administration to enhancing the student experience and ensuring equitable access to resources and support services.
