The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Faculty of Law is set to launch a groundbreaking year-long Master of Arts in Law program, catering to both legal professionals and individuals without a legal background. The initiative aims to complement the existing two-year research Master of Law (LL.B.) program already established within the school.
Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Chris Adomako-Kwakye, unveiled the upcoming program, emphasizing its focus on assisting non-law candidates in exploring areas of law beyond core courses. While affirming the continued importance of the existing LL.B. program, Dr. Adomako-Kwakye highlighted the new offering as a means to equip participants, particularly non-lawyers, with the necessary skills to address legal issues in their respective workplaces.
“We will have the LL.M. pursued by lawyers and the M.A. by non-lawyers,” explained the Dean, outlining the dual-track approach to legal education. Dr. Adomako-Kwakye underscored the faculty’s commitment to providing holistic training, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
He noted the expansion of LL.B. programs to cover contemporary legal topics, aligning with the demands of 21st-century legal education, research, and service. Acknowledging the growing student population, the dean highlighted the need for infrastructure expansion to ensure a comfortable and conducive learning environment.
He appealed to the public, including alumni, parents, and guardians, to contribute to building additional office and classroom spaces for the faculty. Addressing the over 200 newly inducted students at the 3rd LL.B. induction and award ceremony in Kumasi, Dr. Adomako-Kwakye urged them to remain focused on achieving academic excellence.
The event also served as a platform to recognize and reward students who distinguished themselves in their studies.
