Government has not Given us Reasons for the Delay in our Payment- George Ansong

The President of the Senior Staff Association of the Public Universities in Ghana (SSA-UoG) at KNUST, George Ansong has said that the government has not given them any cause for the protraction of their pensions. According to him, the government has refused to address their concerns regarding their pensions and the cancellation of their overtime allowance without any reasons.

Speaking on the grounds government stood over the refusal of their payment, George Ansong said, “they do not give us any reason and that is the most unfortunate thing.” He made this known on Focus FM’s Teknokrat show with the host Audrey Sika Dzifa on Thursday evening.

He continued that they have made leadership aware of their plight but it seems they are adamant which is the more reason they have embarked on the strike. “Government has refused to pay our pensions since March last year and this is not the first time something like this has happened.

We have engaged government severally but it looks like what they understand is strike so we have no means than to go on strike,” he added. George Ansong ended that unlike previous strikes that they go back to work after a period, this time, the Senior Staff would not back down until their demands have been resolved.

The Senior Staff Association of the Public Universities in Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff (FUSSAG) declared an indefinite strike with immediate effect on Wednesday, January, 17 over the disregard of their welfare by the government.
