Parents and freshmen of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST has applauded the school management for putting in place special arrangements to provide freshmen stress- free movement on campus upon their arrival. Unlike previous years, newly admitted students have settled on campus easily without any frustrations due to proper arrangements made by the school management to welcome them.
Management of the university has implemented a policy to assist any freshman who arrived on campus therefore whether international or local students need to only get themselves ready at the major bus park at Accra or Kumasi. Upon their arrival, freshmen are directed at Tech junction by well branded junior members of the university including GRASAG and SRC Executives, the university security personnel, Cadet, Focus FM staff and police personnel to authorized vehicles which send them directly to their respective halls.
According to GRASAG KNUST Organizer, Mahama Fuazi, previous students suffered from transportation challenges which sometimes led to misplacement of their luggage since there was nobody to assist them which informed the management decision of providing assistance to students now. “In the past when students get to Tech Junction, getting cars to Campus was a problem.
Sometimes they lost their luggage. And when they go to the terminal here, they were charged exorbitant fares”, Fauzi said.
Meanwhile, at various traditional halls, registration teams were ready to assist students to go through their registration process with ease which in turn prevented long queues and stress from the side of the students. In an interview, the Deputy Registrar in charge of the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, explained that, this initiative which started three years ago, and also involves accommodation, aims to make the new students feel at home on arrival while assuring them of their safety and security away from their parents.
“Because of the vast nature of the university environment, usually when we’re welcoming fresh students, we’ve a few criminals trying to infiltrate into the university community trying to take advantage of the students, swindle them and so we’ve decided to put this measure in place and we want to ensure that, all students come in without any form of frustration”, the URO said.
