Voters Vote for Money because of Unfulfilled Promises

Assemblyman and candidate for Ayeduase, Twumduase, and Kotei Electoral Areas, Justice Atobrah, has expressed his thoughts and worries on why voters abstain from voting during the District Assembly Elections, which are held every four years.

He claimed that elected assemblymen failed to deliver on what they promised their members during the campaign, thereby making them reluctant to vote again.

In an interview on Focus FM’s Teknokrat show with Sika Audrey Dzifa on Monday evening, Justice Atobrah said people sell their votes because previous and current assembly members do not hold to their promises made to the people when voted into power.

“Buying voters’ votes is a bad act but has become a new norm in our society since assemblymen don’t deliver what they promised the people, thereby giving them false hope,” he said.

Justice Atobrah went on to caution Ghanaians not to vote for money since it would result in electing incompetent leaders.

The district-level elections are scheduled to take place today, December 19.

Over 66,000 individuals are competing for assembly and unit committee positions in the upcoming local polls.
