A delegation from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) on the 9th of October 2023 paid a courtesy visit to the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to interact with the Management, Deans, and Head of Departments to discuss already existing collaborations and also enhance other engagements.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare in his remarks welcomed the delegation and recounted that his initial engagement with guests revealed that the University of Eastern Finland is structured like that of KNUST hence, there is a need to engage. He also asserted that Research Collaboration, Community Impact, and Student and Staff exchange should be in focus to enhance the collaboration between KNUST and UEF.
The leader of the delegation from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jukka Monkkonen revealed that they are the fifth biggest Science University in Finland with about 452 Ghanaian students. He also highlighted that UEF stands tall in the research of neurosciences, biological medicine, and Public Health. Professor Monkkonen added that their partnership with KNUST will greatly focus on research and steadily develop into other disciplines of common interest.
Professor Anto Berko Panyin from the Department from the Department of Pharmacy Practice shared his experience as a visiting lecturer at the University of Eastern Finland in 2012. He stated that his concept of a Pharmacy Practice Laboratory is built at the KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He added that the laboratory had sections for different types of group practicals simultaneously. Professor Anto Berko urged the members of KNUST to take advantage of the collaboration for academic development.
The Deans and the Heads of the various departments in the College of Health Sciences gave an overview of their various units, composition, and research areas. They expressed their interest in collaborating with the University of Eastern Finland in research and exchange programmes.
